Our Mission

Our mission is to share the good news of Jesus Christ with all people; showing love and enthusiasm and by being an open and accepting congregation, working towards life in all its fullness.

Ministry

In the absence of a Minister of the Word, the church, with the approval of Presbytery have appointed a part time co-ordinator, John Bumford.

Combined Worship

The Uniting Church and the Anglican Church share worship 8 times a year taking turn about to host the worship, and including people from each church.

Bible Study

Irregular series of bible studies are conducted during the year to suit local circumstances.

Prayer Meeting

The inter-church prayer meeting is hosted by the Anglican Church and the Uniting Church on a monthly alternating basis.

Music

There is an active Singing Group of 10 people at the church who lead the music in worship. The music is a combination of modern choruses and traditional hymns. A combined Winchelsea choir presents special music at Christmas and Easter.

Nursing Home

The church leads worship at the local Nursing home once a fortnight.

Uniting Care

Volunteers from Geelong Uniting Care visit the church and offer welfare assistance on a weekly basis to the Winchelsea community.

Elders

There are 8 active elders who assist in leading worship and pastoral care of the congregation.

Church Council

The church council meets bi-monthly and consists of all communicant members.

Special Events

The church runs 4 major events in the community each year – in March, a giant Auction at Hesse Reserve, in July, a mid-year Casserole Lunch, in October a ladies Melbourne Shopping trip, and on Cup weekend, a 3 day Art Show in the Globe Theatre.

Inter-Church Co-operation

The 3 Christian Churches in Winchelsea (St. John's Catholic Church, St. Thomas's Anglican Church, and the Uniting Church) have a strong history of active co-operation, under the umbrella of the Winchelsea inter-church committee. Activities include the weekly inter-church prayer meeting, active and financial assistance of the childrens Paradise Club at the Winchelsea Primary School each term, the annual Way of the Cross walk along the Barwon River each Good Friday morning, the World Day of Prayer, a combined Pentecost service on Pentecost Sunday, the annual inter-church dinner, and a combined Carol Service at Christmas.

Ladies Evening Fellowship

This group meets monthly with a varied program.

The Social Committee

This committee is responsible for organising our Start Up BBQ in February, ad hoc church picnics and Sunday lunch outings.

Property Committee

This group oversees maintenance of the suite of buildings in the church grounds – the church, the Sunday School Hall and the manse.

Helen Mary Kininmonth Kindergarten

A large portion of the Sunday School hall has been developed and is used as a kindergarten during the week, thanks to the generous legacy of a member of the congregation, Helen Mary Kininmonth. There is a continuing strong connection between the church and the kindergarten to this day, with active co-operation between the 2 organisations.
